AirwayPerfect –
Background & Development

Developed by Meinhard Büchner, an experienced dental technician with over 40 years of professional experience. The idea arose when patients reported that they snored less or not at all with CMD splints. Through targeted optimizations and new materials, the AirwayPerfect Splint was created – today a proven therapy for snoring and sleep apnea.

AirwayPerfect Costs & Health Insurance Coverage

The AirwayPerfect costs can be covered by many statutory and private health insurance companies if there is a medical indication. This is how you proceed:

  1. diagnosis with ENT doctor or sleep medicine specialist
  2. Regulation a mandibular protrusion splint
  3. Customization & Manufacturing of the AirwayPerfect Splint by Büchner Zahntechnik

The AirwayPerfect splint was developed from the unsatisfactory experiences of patients with CPAP devices and plastic snoring splints. With the knowledge of what is possible in dental technology and some tinkering, we have developed the optimal solution.

These are the advantages that AirwayPerfect offers you:

  • perfect seat
  • high wearing comfort
  • quick putting on and taking off
  • very few restrictions on speaking
  • drinking is possible
  • easy cleaning
  • made of steel, therefore no odor formation
  • The feed (ratio of lower and upper jaw) can be adjusted individually – even by yourself!
  • this allows a slow adjustment from the initial to the desired final position
  • Sliding surfaces allow slight jaw movement, your jaw is not firmly fixed
  • changeable if you lose your own teeth
  • Adjustment to dentures
  • almost unlimited lifespan
  • Coverage of costs by health insurance companies

Further advantages that distinguish the manufacturing and quality of AirwayPerfect:

  • The production is carried out by a specialized dental technology laboratory
  • The overall coordination with the sleep laboratory, dentist and dental technology laboratory is carried out by a central office – we monitor the rapid production of your splint
  • the AirwayPerfect splint has been successfully in practical use since 2018
  • People aged 24 to 80 use the AirwayPerfect Splint

Doctors often favor this type of technical breathing aid, also called CPAP (continous positive airway pressure), as a solution. These devices are touted in videos and on manufacturer websites as a practical, important and ultimate solution. However, when you read the study results and experiences, the world doesn't look so wonderful anymore.

Common adverse effects of CPAP include dry mouth or nose, irritation, and pain.(1)

A high number of sleep apnea syndrome patients do not accept this form of therapy permanently. You stop using the CPAP device in the first month or year. It is very unusual and a big change to sleep with a mask on your face. Anyone who then does not take care of any alternative is taking a high health risk. (2)(3)(4)

-> We have much more information about CPAP for you on the FAQ page.

A plastic snoring splint is more practical than a CPAP machine because it looks like a larger brace. It doesn't need a device, a hose, or a mask.

However, plastic snoring splints also have some disadvantages: They are not suitable if you have a severe overbite, a removable implant, or prostheses. Multiple missing teeth in the lower or upper jaw can limit or even exclude applicability. In the early days of use, these splints often cause jaw pain as the lower jaw is pushed into an unfamiliar position.

Cheap models can only be adjusted a little. Higher-quality ones are more accurate because a dentition impression is used to make them.

Experts are not enthusiastic about the use of thermoplastic rails, which anyone can make themselves using the „boil and bite“ process. The service life is limited (sometimes only a few weeks), the material is susceptible to damage, constant care is required and the plastic absorbs odors and soon no longer smells neutral. (5)

-> We'll go into more detail about snoring tracks on the FAQ page. You can find even more advantages and disadvantages as well as studies under the keyword snoring splint (protrusion splint).

This requires the coordinated cooperation of several experts. After a specialist or sleep lab diagnoses you with sleep apnea (important for your health insurance), the dentist and we come in.

From the collaboration with the dentist, the possibly necessary visit to the sleep lab, the contact with the statutory health insurance company regarding cost coverage, and the production of your AirwayPerfect – we will take care of all of that for you! We are happy to provide you with information.

Our advice: Don't try different solutions first. You only lose time and your risk of disease remains high. Go straight for the ideal solution!
